What is a silicon carbide nozzle?

The burner nozzle is one of the main parts of the burner. It comes in a variety of shapes and may be achieved with accurate fuel flow adjustment by a unique design to meet various industrial requirements. High temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and abrasion resistance are important characteristics. The common materials are stainless steel, nickel-based alloy, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide (SiC), etc. Among them, silicon carbide nozzles are specially noted for their unique merits.

Do oil burner nozzles wear out?

The fuel burner nozzle will wear out. The principal reasons are as follows:
①Scouring by impurities: The fuel may contain solid impurities of small particle size. Impurities will flow at high speed through the nozzle and wear out the inner surface.
②Chemical corrosion: Some of the fuel elements may produce corrosive gases when combusted. The corrosive gases will attack the nozzle at high temperatures.
③High combustion temperature: During fuel combustion, the temperature will be very high, and the nozzle material should have good properties, otherwise it is very easy to wear at high temperatures.

What is the difference between silicon carbide nozzles and tungsten carbide nozzles?

① Different materials. Silicon carbide nozzles are made of silicon carbide, which is very hard, only second to diamond, while tungsten carbide nozzles are pressed and sintered by tungsten-cobalt alloy, and have good wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

② Different weights. Tungsten carbide nozzles are heavier and denser than silicon carbide nozzles.

③ Different wear resistances. Silicon carbide nozzles are more difficult to wear and have a longer lifespan compared to tungsten carbide nozzles.

④ Different prices. Generally speaking, silicon carbide nozzles are cheaper than tungsten carbide nozzles.

What is the best silicon carbide nozzle for sandblasting?

A variety of nozzles is employed in various sandblasting conditions and needs. Silicon carbide nozzles should be selected for high-speed sand blasting. Tungsten carbide sandblasting nozzles should be selected when impact force or irregular impact of sand particles occurs often in sandblasting.

 

What are the benefits of SiC nozzles?

Super wear resistance. Silicon carbide nozzle is exceptionally hard, which assures a longer life than any other material.
Excellent corrosion resistance. SiC nozzles have resistance to most of corrosive chemicals, including strong acids and bases.
High temperature resistance. Silicon carbide can endure continuous working temperatures up to 1600 ℃. It is very effective at cooling heat and withstands temperature changes under pressure without cracking.
Strong mechanical properties. Silicon carbide nozzles are strong enough to withstand high-pressure applications, such as firefighting.

What factors affect the life of a silicon carbide nozzle?

Harder or more abrasive particles can accelerate wear. When elevated in temperature, some molten metals or compounds will interact with silicon carbide, resulting in the degradation of the nozzle properties. Continuous and extreme cycling during temperature changes can result in cracking over a long period of service.
Another factor is pressure. Higher pressures result in higher wear rates because of the rapid impact. Operating a nozzle continuously is less harmful, as the start and stop will put more stress on the nozzle.
